Does hell really exist?
74There has been a lot of talk lately about the existence of hell and if it is really forever. In a recently written book by Michigan mega church pastor Rob Bell, Bell states that if hell exists, it can't be for eternity. He says that in the end, after death, everyone will have another chance to follow Christ and they will take it and repent, and in the end Everyone will end up in heaven. This kind of false teaching is foolish and extremely dangerous.
Universalism
The idea of universalism states that in the end every human will end up in heaven, so we should not focus on the heaven and hell in the future, but focus on our life her and now. Trevin Wax who is an editor for the Southern Baptist convention Lifeway resources said that " If our biggest need was to feel good about ourselves, God would have sent Oprah, and if our biggest need was to get along with our family, God would have sent Dr. Phil. But God sent his son to brutally die for our sins on the cross, then surely our sin must be more heinous than feeling empty inside." Wax also said that "The greatest threat to Christianity may not be from modern culture, blatant heresies, or the rise of Islam. It may come from the counterfeit gospel, the seeds of which are slowly being planted within the church."
Biblical basis
There is no basis whatsoever in the Bible to back up Bells ideas. There are many many references that the opposite is true. Hell does exist, and it is for eternity. The Greek word for hell was used in the New Testament 12 times, 11 of those times were from the mouth of Jesus Christ. If you don't believe in the biblical teaching of hell, you don't believe in the teachings of Jesus himself.
If you don't believe in the teachings of Jesus, then you are saying Jesus is a liar and the Bible is not true. You can't pick and choose the parts of the Bible that you want to believe. If you only believe in the parts of the Bible that work for you, you are not a follower of Christ.
Reality of hell
John MacArthur preaching on the subject of hell said, "The truth of eternal punishment to come on those who do not believe the gospel savingly is a painful message to preach, it is a painful message to hear, it is a painful message to process. It is a painful truth to apply, but it is biblical." Matthew 25: 45-46 45 “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’ 46 “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”
Revelation 14: 10-11 10 must drink the wine of God’s anger. It has been poured full strength into God’s cup of wrath. And they will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. 11 The smoke of their torment will rise forever and ever, and they will have no relief day or night, for they have worshiped the beast and his statue and have accepted the mark of his name.” Just from these 2 passages you can see that hell is not just a bad time. No, hell is clearly a place of torment and pain that will last forever.
evidence of hell
Luke 16: 24-26 24 “The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’
25 “But Abraham said to him, ‘Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.’ This clearly shows that you can't get to heaven after death, once you die and go to hell, you can't leave. There is no second chance after death.
hell is forever
In the gospels hell is described as a place of unimaginable torment, weeping and gnashing of teeth, spiritual and bodily destruction, fiery furnace, outer darkness, unquenchable fires and endless torment. These words from the Bible do not leave any room for different interpretation, hell is clearly not a place that anyone wants to be even for a short time, and you certainly don't want to be there for eternity.
Judgement for sin
God is a loving God but he is also a just God and the price must be paid for all sins. Jesus died to pay the price for all sins, all we need to do is believe and repent and turn away from our sins. God will give you a new life and a new heart and you will not want to continue to sin.
God would not have sent Jesus to die on the cross to pay the price for our sins If we could all continue to sin and live like we want here on earth, then after we die we could make the decision that we believe and repent for all out sins.
If you follow Bell's teaching that you can say your sorry after death and still go to heaven, you are wrong, you will not have the chance to change your mind after death, you will not spend eternity in heaven, you will be sentenced to eternity in hell.
A great illustration of God being just and not evil is by comparing to mans law. If someone breaks the laws of man, and goes before a judge or a jury to face the charges and they say that they are sorry for their crime, it doesn't change the fact that they have to pay the price for the crime. Even if you commit a seemingly small crime like texting while driving or not wearing a seat belt. The judge is not going to let you out of the fine because you say you are sorry for breaking the law. There are penalties for breaking the law and you must pay for the crime.
If you were sentenced to a $10,000 fine for a crime and couldn't pay it, you would go to jail, even if you were sorry. If someone paid the fine for you, you would be allowed to go free, the price for your crime has been paid. If God is just he will also not forget about the sins against him if you say your sorry on judgement day, you will be held accountable for the sins you've committed.
There would have been no reason for God to send Jesus to earth to die and pay the price for our sins, if we could wait until we die and then say we are sorry and it's done. He sent Jesus to earth to die for our sins, to pay the price, so if we choose to accept this gift, we will be spared the pain of Hell.
Don't be wrong
The Mega church preachers who are teaching this type of religion where having a great life here on earth should be our focus, are leading many people away from the truth of the gospel and what God wants us to do. Our job is to spread the truth, and let people know that this feel good gospel is wrong. The price for being wrong is eternity in hell. God doesn't want anyone to spend eternity in hell, but on judgement day, he will be just and those who do not believe and repent will be sentenced to eternity in hell. The fact that some don't believe in hell, doesn't change the fact that hell is real and it is forever.
Don't be wrong and think that you can keep sinning and live your life the way you want to and then after you die you can say sorry and yo will be forgiven. There is no Biblical evidence supporting Bells claims and plenty supporting the opposite is true.
Other good reading
End of the world predictions Will Dec. 21 2012 be the end of the world? There have been a lot of discussion on this topic. There are a lot of end of the world predictions and arguments saying that the world is going to end on this day. What is the basis for these predictions?
What Jesus called every Christian to do When you accept Christ and follow him, one of the main things Christians are called to do is to go out into the world and tell others about Jesus and what he did for them so that everyone can have the opportunity to have eternal life in heaven. Unfortunately only 2% of Christians ever share their faith in Christ with anyone.
Why you need to forgive and move on One of the most important things you can do, as a Christian in your walk to follow Jesus Christ is to practice forgiveness for everyone who has harmed you. Forgiveness is not easy; it’s one of the most difficult things you must do because it’s against human nature.

I could be wrong about it, but if that's the case than you could be wrong about the Muslim Hell, the Greek Underworld, or the Norse Underworld (which is called Helheim and is where we get the word Hell). So I could easily reflect the same question back at you. My guess is that you have lost no sleep worrying about any of the other Underworld concepts scattered throughout mythology, so why do you accept the Biblical one and reject all the others?
He's interpreting it differently than you are. Even if he weren't interpreting the scriptures differently there are moral reasons to reject Hell, such as the fact that it would make God the most evil being to ever exist.
Hello, Spease. Cherry picking scripture is not a nice thing to do, especially if one is a supposed minister.
False interpretation is also not very nice, but I think we're all guilty of that. In all humility, I keep searching for understanding, asking God for guidance.
What Titen-Sxull seems not to understand is that there are other ways of looking at the world around us, not just his own.
How is it possible to view God as loving and have Hell be a reality? Simple. Hell is our own decision, not God's. It couldn't be any simpler. But that kind of philosophical problem happens when one "already knows the truth." That's arrogance. And too many Christians "already know the truth."
The antidote for those lost Christians and for Titen-Sxull is "humility." Only with humility can ego be eliminated. That is the toughest assignment we have, because ego wants us to think that we are it. When we buy into the idea that we are our own egos, then we block the way to salvation.
When Jesus died on the cross, he was teaching by example. He was telling us that the false, ego self needs to die before we can be resurrected as children of God. This does not require our own crucifixion, but it is every bit as difficult. Ego is an equal-opportunity slave master -- the master of this world.
"How is it possible to view God as loving and have Hell be a reality? Simple. Hell is our own decision, not God's"
Only problem is that's not an answer, its apologetics that directly contradict scripture. The Bible repeatedly personifies God as a judge who will judge the living and the dead according to their deeds. When Jesus describes judgment he describes saying to people "depart from me cursed ones into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels."
You know what Jesus doesn't say? He doesn't say that its a human beings own decision to go to Hell. Of course I understand the desire to reinterpret scripture in order to avoid uncomfortable and immoral things contained in it. Sometimes facing reality can be hard, you might have to reject what the Bible actually says in favor of an interpretation you just made up.
I believe hell exsists. It is the separation of us from God. Eternal fire speaks of the spiritual anguish of our souls. The idea that hell is a place of burning where nothing is consumed is a false as the idea that Heaven is in a cloud floating above the earth.
Personally I wish Hell didn't exist but in one of the verses below the bible talks about the lake of fire where the devil and his angels will be tormented forever-(it's in the bible). Doesn't sound like he's talking about simply being separated from God and if he can do this to the devil and demons why can't he include humans? People say this makes God evil but we keep over looking some things. We over look the horror we as humans do to each other and we over look the fact that God has given us a chances after chances to escape this fate but we spit that back in face because we'll accept redemption only on our own terms but hey it's has to do with whether we really being or not.
The following words are very common and were not included in your search: "the" "of"
1.Revelation 20:15
And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:14-15 (in Context) Revelation 20 (Whole Chapter)
Revelation 20
7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where[b] the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Voted UP, spease. Many preachers have become so politically-correct and tolerant of blatant sin that they're afraid or else too soft to preach the truth. Keep on preachin', brother. Warning people is the job of us Christians. Bless you.
spease,
Don't be decieved by fairy tales and jewish fables taught by the forked tongues of men.. this doctrine of hell is a lie, the lie of the false prophet, taught by those of no concience...
The Great One shall soon come and punish those who have perverted his justice with this as Peter put it "damable heresy"..
If you will but seek the other side of the story you will easily find how man thru history has pervert both the words of God and the good news of the gospel..
Seek for the truth !!!!!!!

How exactly is a few Bible verses evidence that Hell actually exists? You can't just slap a few Bible verses out and call that evidence. I can't just pull a few lines from Homer's Odyssey and claim that's proof the Greek Underworld exists.
