What is freedom
The concept of freedom means different things to different people, depending on the level of freedom that you have in your life.
Most people, when they think of the definition of freedom, they think of Liberty, which includes freedom of speech. The definition of liberty is having the ability to act according to your own will, as long as it doesn't affect the ability of someone else to act according to their own will. Most rational people would agree that this is the way that a society should function.
American Freedom
The American founding fathers felt that this concept was of utmost importance when they were deciding what the United States Of America would be, and how it would function. So much so that they wrote this line into the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
The importance of this paragraph is the basis for our system of government. This is what sets the U.S. Apart from all other countries in the world. If you understand what this means, you know that the U.S. Government is now trying to take control of many of the areas of our life, and taking away our liberty, and our freedom to make our own decisions. The Obama administration is not taking their powers from the consent of the governed, they are telling us that we are not smart enough to debate the issues of health care, global warming, etc. They are telling us that they know better than we do, what is best for us. They want to take away your freedom to do what what you want.
Taking away American freedom
Forcing people to buy health insurance, and fining them if they don't. Forcing people to pay huge increases in costs for energy, to line the pockets of a few people in the name of saving the planet from something that many prominent scientists don't even think exist, or don't think that it has any effect on the temperature of earth. Many think it would be beneficial if the earth was a few degrees warmer.
If they control the health care system, they will be able to control most of the aspects of our lives, they will be able to tell us if we can get treatment for an ailment, if we can smoke, if we can eat fast food, if we can drink alcohol, or if we can do anything else that they feel we shouldn't do. I'm not saying that these things are good, what I'm saying is, because these are legal products, that we can readily buy, we should be able to use them when we want, as long as using them doesn't affect the right of someone else in their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The health care issue should be debated, we should fix the problems with the health care system, we should not start over from scratch. Most things about the health care system are fine, it's the health insurance system that needs fixed. That's for a different article.

Our Freedom in America affects the rest of the world
The taking away of liberty from Americans, does not only affect Americans. Regardless of what many people think, much of the success of the rest of the world is tied to the success of America. America helped defeat the enemy in two world wars, and continue to help protect most of Europe to this day. We helped rebuild Europe and Asia after world war 2. We also give huge amounts of foreign aid to help countries that have corrupt governments that operate to keep their people opressed, so they can't be the best that they can be.
The American people on their own give hundreds of millions of dollars in charity, outside of the government to help people anywhere it is needed, just because we can and want to. The buying power of the American people, because we are prosperous, greatly helps the rest of the world from our consuption. We buy enough products produced in other parts of the world that the loss of that buying power, would greatly effect the economy of all of those places.
Why we need Freedom
If they take away our opportunity to be successful and to have extra money to give to people who need help, that will have a huge affect on the needy people around the world. If you look at where government aid and charity donations come from, you will see that nothing comes from China, Russia, or any other communist governments, this is the result of government control. The wealth and prosperity that comes with the freedom to be the best we can be, and to be as wealthy as we can, by being able to succeed to our fullest potential, that is what makes it all work.
Freedom gives you the Opportunity to succeed
I'm not putting down any European forms of government. It does appear that several European governments are moving more to a capitalistic form of governing while we are trying to move away from it. America moving to a more socialist form of government will hurt the whole world economy, and will damage the system that has created the most prosperous and freest nation ever. That is not a good thing. It also will take away from the basic rights of all Americans, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It will also make us less equal, if we don't all have the ability to be the best that we can be. Being equal means that we all have that opportunity to succeed, it doesn't mean that we all have the same things. Some people will work much harder to succeed, they should have more than people who don't want to work to succeed.
The need to preserve freedom
This is not a rant, I am truly worried about our great country. I am proud to be an American, and happy that we can help the less fortunate throughout the world. It is something that Americans have always done, from the very beginning. When the pilgrims came to America, they set up a system of government that was like a commune. Everyone got a piece of land. They would all farm their land, raise animals, make shoes, etc. and put their output into a communal store. Everyone would then split up what the community had evenly. They kept this system for only 2 years.
The problem they found was, if one family grew say 100 bushels of grain, and another grew 50, they would each get 75. There was no incentive to be better. After the 2 years, they changed and allowed people to grow what they could, and produce what they could, then trade for what they need. They produced much much more, because they could trade for extra things that they wanted by being better and growing more, or by producing more products that were worth trading for such as milk, meat, or shoes, or whatever. That was the start of capitalism. If someone was having a hard time, everyone would help them if they needed it. They did it because it worked. The incentive to be more successful and create something that people want and need, will make you a success and create wealth, this is the real American dream.
Our freedom can be easily taken away
Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction”. We are on the threshold of that being a reality If we don't stop the loss of liberty. The next generation will not have freedom in the way the founding fathers wanted us to have freedom. We must stop it and hold on to the beliefs of our founding fathers, to be able to do whatever we want as long as it doesn't hurt others trying to do the same thing. They really knew what they were talking about.

This is a good hub! Someone once said, "an anarchist is someone who believes in more freedom than you do." Count me in that group when compared to a large number of our politicians in Washington. We the people will be the change we seek. I hope it happens before we've moved too far away from it.

My question to you is did we not have an election in which the consent of the governed was expressed in a democratic process? What am I missing here? The current administration is in fact taking their powers to govern from the very people that elected them to do just that. You say this: "They want to take away your freedom to do what what you want." Can you demonstrate the truth of that claim? You seem to know what their motivations are, and I think that questioning the motives of somebody is tantamount to mind reading. Apparently you seem to think that they have meetings in the Oval Office on a daily basis and think up ways to take away our freedom and put us all into re-education camps. Is that a conservative trait that is part of the DNA in those that seem to think that their view IS the only view that represents this country?
Dick Cheney was asked during the Bush second term how he would respond to the poll numbers that showed that 80% of the country felt that we were moving in the wrong direction. His response was, "So? We don't govern according to polls. We were elected to do what we think is right". Was that an example of governing according to the will of the governed? If so..how?

Some people have sometimes some Messianic visions of how the world SHOULD be, and they diligently work them out in the fabric of sleeping societies that allow them to manifest and implement their paradisiacal paradigms of social justice, concord and happiness for the self-elected ones. That’s partly how Nazism and Communism were born and that’s how these new wave of totalitarian happiness will actually become more paradisiacal then both former Dis(orders) in one place.
These people actually lack any cultural, religious or civic identity, and they CLAME that they belong to an ethnical group when is fashionable; as if their ideas would be a common knowledge of the whole community they happen to belong to. They are the heroic figures, the martyrs the great ideologists the healers, the everything one can envision only in the most fantastic one-man show fiesta…and they can kill in the name of their ideas.
Pointing out the misconceptions in their “messianic” ideology becomes a crime of less majesty, or a sacrilege against a certain ethnical group and that NEEDS to be guillotined with all means of the social security and control installed by them ranging from exclusion, gross manipulation of personal information, isolation, defamation and even murder of those who don’t happily share this stuffed, confined ideological space with them.
I would bring here an example from WWII Romanian History, and I will mention here the heads full of madness that perpetrated the horrendous crimes under the Pitesti Experiment : Anna Pauker, Nicholski, Zeller. They had, like I said a vision of how the society should look like and they imposed it by the means of Bolshevik propaganda, institutionalized terror and manipulation of information, isolation, imprison and killing those who did not agree with it. Tens of thousands of Romanian people, intellectuals or people without too much school but with basic, peasant-like common sense, people whose main crime was the love for freedom, for their nation and for Christ were mutilated physically and psychologically or simply exterminated at the command of these “messianic “ figures.
People like them and those who serve them rewrote the history which is a crime perpetrated against a whole nation. They lied about the WWII affirming that in Romania there was a holocaust perpetrated by Romanian Authorities. They attributed the Holocaust that took place in Ardeal while Hungarian occupation to Romanians. The truth is totally different from their version. Actually Marshal Antonescu rendered passports in white to hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees from Ardeal to cross the borders and enter what was left from Romanian territories, where they were actually protected from Nazis. In Romania there was no Nazi law, while Romania had Romanian leaders there was a Romanian law. Romania fought under the WWII for her national territories and the Romanian authorities saved 300 000 -400 000 refugees from Holocaust.
In 1940, after Stalin in agreement with Hitler stole Romanian territories Basarabia and Bucovina many terrorist elements belonging to local Jewish communities attacked Romanian refugees and Romanian Army while they withdrew from these occupied territories to what was left of Romania of those times. In Basarabia and Bucovina they perpetrated savage acts against Romanian refugees, under the protection of Soviet Bolsheviks. These acts horrified the Romanian society of those times and fueled some revengeful acts that Marshal Antonescu contained and actually extinguished with a great national price. Many Romanian Nationalists who did not host any revengeful ideas or did not perpetuate any revengeful acts were imprisoned by Antonescu and they continued to execute many years of prison after the war, in horrendous conditions imposed by communists . Many Bolshevik terrorists coming from Jewish communities. -- not because they were Jews but because they were violent-- were deported to labor camps in Transnistria to protect the rest of peaceful Jewish population, and avoid the generalization of an ethnic conflict during those times of war. From those labor camps many of them were actually allowed to “escape” to USSR.
What amazes me is that this historical truth is obscured here in the US just like in Bolshevik societies. The Holocaust Museum in DC appears to ignore the history and attributes the crimes that were perpetrated by Horthy in Romanian region called Ardeal , transferred under Hungarian administration following the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact, to Romanian authorities.
We become more and more knowledgeable about the fact that people who perpetrated the most horrendous crimes during communism in Eastern European countries and Russia, the many ferocious Bolsheviks and criminals belonged to Jewish ethnical groups. They claimed their Jewish identify because it was fashionable during those times and because that gave them a martyr aura and rendered them entitled to the gruesome crimes they perpetrated against Romanians after WWII. Telling these truths becomes an impiety against the whole Jewish community, just as if all Jews are criminals, or liars, or opportunists. Some of their political leaders that acted in their name were so, and their murders bring a shadow over the whole community. Romanians are forgiving but they don’t usually forget history, because they made their history in those lands, defending their country from foreign invasions and foreign ideologies of totalitarian happiness. Romanians are Orthodox Christians and Christians are free people and respect other people right to self-determination. In true Christianity nobody imposes their own vision on others. That’s why Romanians along their millenary history did not invade other countries.
The propensity to hide horrendous crimes perpetrated by some of the leaders of a community under ethnic umbrella brings a great injury to the whole community. Re-writing history with fist in the mouth does not serve the truth, and the truth always surfaces like oil in the water. Rewriting history by disregarding the role that some very important Bolshevik leaders belonged to Jewish communities while accusing national martyrs and heroes like Antonescu or Legionaries of anti-Semitism does not serve anybody. Victims of totalitarian visions were both Romanians under the Communist years and the Jews under Nazis. There is no monopoly over martyrdom or heroism. It would be nice if the history is written from the peaceful stance where Romanians helped Jews and vice-versa and not from a protochronist perspective, denying historic realities and thinking in large blocks and clichés. Peaceful Jewish communities everywhere become even more targets of hatred because of the great injustice perpetrated but some of their leaders or “great thinkers” during Communist times and in “Post-Communist” era as well. People love and respect their martyrs and heroes, and their national values and there is no double standard for appreciation of what is valuable in a society or the other. “You need to respect my heroes and martyrs, especially when they helped you, and I will respect yours.” That will be a more fair standard for social concord rather than the gross manipulation of truth and history by some of the political leaders. They care more about their political influence, and their chair underneath their “royal” butt rather than the communities, let alone nations they need to actually serve. When the society subscribes to their political vision that serves only the interests of few lobbies than that society serves the political power and not vice-versa, as the Constitution statutes.
The truth that a community who was victimized had its own criminals that victimized a significant number of people does not make that truth anti-ethnic. It is an historic, documented fact, and not an impiety at the whole community to acknowledge this fact. I actually believe that criminals and those who serve criminal totalitarian ideologies don’t have anything in common with any ethnic group they are actually ignorant of the values of the community they com

Well the problem with our constitution is the preamble part. The law don't hold onto it, they go by the meat of it all in the amendments and articles. Actually the problem is not the preamble, but the Constitutional Lawyers and the Judges who interpret it in their won demented way. Thanks for a good hub. I too worry about this mess.
